Account Requirements

There's no need to open multiple accounts at different firms to diversify your portfolio anymore. You'll quickly see the convenience and flexibility of being able to trade stocks, futures, and options from the same account.

Account Type Available to Trade Opening Deposit
Cash Stocks, Options $1,000
Margin Stocks, Options, Futures $2,000
IRA Stocks, Options $500

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Futures trading can be added to a margin account that has at least a $2,000 balance. Futures trading will be disabled if the account balance drops below $1,000.
  • If the balance in a margin account falls below $2,000, the account will be restricted to cash trading (margin leverage will be removed).
  • Pattern daytrading (PDT)) accounts require a $25,000 minimum balance. Pattern daytrading status is assigned to margin accounts which execute more than three (3) equity or options daytrades within five (5) consecutive business days.
  • Non pattern daytrading (NPDT) account is a margin account with account balance below $25,000. The account is given day trading buying power of a 4:1 basis as long as the account DOES NOT exceed Three (3) day trades in a rolling five (5) business day period.
  • Cash accounts do not have a minimum balance requirement.
  • Regular cash accounts and margin accounts are never charged account inactivity or maintenance fees.


NEW! Margin Account Restriction (Effective June 27, 2008)
If PDT accounts fall below the minimum equity of $25,000 or NPDT exceeds 3 day trades in the rolling 5 business day period, an Equity Maintenance call will be generated, in which the account will be issued with zero (0) day trading buying power and zero (0) overnight buying power. In addition, the accounts will be restricted to liquidating transactions only until the day after the Equity Maintenance call is met. For more detail please click here.
